Essay #1-Moviemaking This assignment must be completed by the due date (according to course schedule/syllabus). It will include reference to material in Units 1, 2 & 3. Your essay must be formatted according to MLA Style (see Pre-Unit Review); 12 pt. font, double spaced, Times New Roman font style, etc…. The assignment is worth 100 points. Write an essay of at least 750 words analyzing how the moviemaking process was applied in a film (anything currently playing in theatres OR that is listed under “New Release” for Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, YouTube, or Redbox is acceptable) Please include the following as (set up as separate headings or sections): · Introduction (10%) -- Include the movie's title, name of director, name of the lead actors and a one sentence synopsis of the plot. · Preproduction (30%) -- An analysis of the movie's screenplay and how it fits within the three-act structure. You may also discuss the film's production design, costuming, casting and other elements that would have been decided prior to principal photography. · Principal Cinematography (30%) -- An analysis of the film's visual aspects with attention to shot choices, lighting, camera angles, camera movement and point of view. Describe specific scenes. · Postproduction (30%) -- An analysis of how the film was edited with attention to the style and rhythm of particular scenes and use of traditional or non-traditional cutting techniques. You may also discuss music, visual effects or sound editing that would have been added after principal photography ended.
