Ishan Chatterjee Ms. Griffith ENG3UE July 18th, 2023 Human Rights: Global Movements for Equality and Justice Ladies and Gentlemen! It is an honor to present to you, today. Regarding a pivotal topic which forms the basis of our society. Human Rights. We reside in a world which grapples different perspectives, and viewpoints. As individuals, we, have differing perspectives on many significant societal matters. Nevertheless, in order to maintain a just and equitable society, we need to stick to the truth and adhere to the legal system. Most importantly, we should advocate for our own moral compasses, and align ourselves to a dedicated cause. To build a collective society that builds equal opportunity to everyone. The notion of human rights will always stick to a dedicated matter, which will never change. I assert that human rights are the building blocks upon which we create our shared values of equality, justice and dignity. I have consistently encouraged the process of fostering fairness and justice within our societies. Human rights are built upon the notion that every individual possesses intrinsic value and contribution. Many influential ancestors of our past, and idols including Mahatma Gandhi, Nelson Mandela and Martin Luther King have stood by the lines of justice. These revolutionary individuals are part of the very reason, why we have advanced human rights privileges. In aspects of our lives such as, the right to a fair legal trial, access to seeking justice and support, and the creation of a non-discriminatory legal system. I believe that it is important to uphold human rights as we can establish a sense of integrity, accountability without any prejudice and bias in the rule of law. Ultimately, as responsible citizens, we should not ignore any violations of human rights. It is a responsibility from our side to stand up to what is wrong, and to shed light upon the truth. Any form of injustice can broaden our scope of suffering, understating the framework of our societies. By protecting human rights, we can work towards our vision. A vision of fairness and equality in our communities. The implications of human rights reach beyond the scopes of just fairness and accountability. A strong framework of human rights can create a diverse and progressive society. In our communities, we can channelize very fundamental and core elements that create the building blocks of society. For instance, we can make advancements in the healthcare sectors, education and solidify the Charter of Rights on what constitutes, “Freedom of Expression”. As we embrace human rights, we further solidify our belief, that everyone, regardless of their race or skin color, should be given every opportunity to succeed and make an impact. No one in our society, will be considered “weak” or “powerless”. Everyone will have value. The continued success stories of people such as David Suzuki, or Mahatma Gandhi demonstrates a transformative power, and role models for us to cherish. We can be, the beacons of change. We can work towards a better society, given the right steps and policies. We should not be swayed by those who downplay our values, or foster negative ideologies. As, responsible individuals, we should eliminate the stereotypes and cultivate positivity. And, display our love for God and Country. We have an obligation to be the influencers of positive change, and voices that demand justice and hands that extend in camaraderie. Therefore, we can conclude that human rights is not only a legal obligation. Human rights compose of our moral compass. Human rights represent our identity, and the fact that we can harbor positive change. We, can collectively, ensure that every individual is valued, if we pursue one small step. Treating everyone equally, and with respect, adhering to the laws and the legal system, and preaching what we believe in, peacefully and respectfully. These values build the virtue of a fair and equitable community, which we will always thrive to build. Once again, justice and equality will shape our vision. Thank You for listening!
