Team Assignment 1
Accounting is an information system that identifies, records, and communicates
information to decision-makers about an organization’s business activities. This team
assignment aims to build your skills in connecting accounting data to business activities.
Specially, this team assignment is a game of “financial statements detective”. You are
provided with common-size financial statements of nine companies in different
industries. For each company, your task as a “detective” is to uncover the industry the
company belongs to.
Requirement:
(1) Each group should work independently and academically;
(2) Please email the TA your solutions by 10pm on 26 September 2023. Early
submission is encouraged. You submission should be in one of the two formats:
(a) a PowerPoint Presentation (PPT) file showing your detective work and your
rationales (i.e., what the company’s industry is; what accounting data lead you to
this conclusion; what accounting data (if any) is inconsistent with your conclusion),
OR
(b) a video recording file of your team presenting your detective work and your
rationales.
Note: your PPT or video recording might be played in class as a starting point for class
discussion. If you do not want your PPT or recording be shown in class, please let the
TA know in your submission.
