Imbellus – McKinsey Background
About the digital assessment
•
McKinsey’s Imbellus Digital Assessment is a
virtual "test" used to evaluate McKinsey
candidates during the application process.
•
This replaces the McKinsey PST and has been
gradually rolling out to McKinsey offices
globally.
•
The game provides digital situations that are
unique to each user, and you can't prepare for it
in the same way you would have prepared for
the PST.
•
Innovative screening tool to filter out candidates.
What is Imbellus?
Imbellus is a start-up that develops
assessments that "evaluate how people
think, not just what they know".
Game Format
Key Summary about the digital assessment
•
A computer-based assessment
•
An experience similar to a video game
•
About 60 minutes of total run time
•
1-3 scenarios (aka different games)
•
4-5 tasks within each scenario
•
The information present for each candidate is
unique – for example, the food chain ecosystem
might have different species with different calorie
data etc.
Tips before you get started
1) Make sure you have a strong internet connection
and access to a laptop/computer.
2) Book a time slot and ensure no distractions will be
present during your allocated time slot.
How do the scenarios look like?
1. Ecosystem Creation
•
•
•
Build a sustainable
food chain
Select plants and
marine wildlife
Tracking outcomes
based on
calories/predators
2. Plant protection
•
Defend a plant
from invaders
•
Similar to Plants
vs. Zombies
•
MOST COMMON
Allowed to make
certain moves
and there is a
restriction of how
many.
3. Disaster Management
•
•
Help animals
facing a natural
disaster
Figure out
disaster types
and make
decisions to
relocate animals
and protect them
4. Disease management
•
Save wildlife from
an unidentified
disease.
•
E.g. choosing
right vaccine to
save sick animals.
•
Need to create
and implement
rescue plan
1. Ecosystem Creation
Tips to beat the 1st scenario
•
Build a sustainable food chain
•
Select plants and marine wildlife
•
Tracking outcomes based on
calories/predators
•
In our opinion, creating 2 or 3 unique
chains that are mutually exclusive
helps. Chains can be however long.
•
Need to select 8 species and all
MUST survive.
Graduate Scope will provide key tips and
analysis to only the first 2 games as they are
the most common scenarios.
2. Plant protection
Tips to beat the 2nd scenario
•
Defending a plant from a damaging
invasive species by placing predators
and obstacles in a landscape.
•
This is a turn-based game, where you
and the invasive species will alternate
moves. You make 5 moves and can
adapt your moves before they occur.
•
Survive as long as you can.
•
Play slowly and plant defenders on
slow terrains to 2x the impact of
protection.
•
Very similar to plants vs zombies
