Q1. A centrifugal pump, having an unbalance mass of m and eccentricity e, is supported on a
rigid foundation of mass m2 through isolator springs of stiffness k1, as shown in below
figure. The mass of the centrifugal pump and the support is m1 and damping between
foundation and pump (isolator) is c1. The rotational speed of the centrifugal pump is N.
If the soil stiffness and damping are k2 and c2, find the displacement functions of the
pump and the foundation, x1(t) and x2(t).

m = 0.25 kg
For B1 students, e = 0.2 m
For B2 students, e = 0.3 m
N = 700 + (10 × A) rpm
k1 = 500 kN/m
k2 = 200 + (10 × B) kN/m
For B1 students, m1 = 500 kg
For B2 students, m1 = 600 kg
m2 = 750 + (10 × A) kg
c1 = 0 N.s/m
c2 = (40 + C) N.s/m
A = Your registration number (last two digits)
B = Last digit of the registration number
C = First digit of the registration number
Example, for the registration number MAN/20/B1/90, A =90, B = 0, C = 9
