My name is Gurveen Pabla and I’m a third-year computer science student at TMU. I'm
passionate about technology and its potential to drive positive change in the world.
In my past few years at TMU, I’ve had the chance to delve into various topics, ranging from Data
Structures, Intro to Software Engineering, and Artificial Intelligence. In these classes, I’ve had
the chance to collaborate with like-minded individuals which I can now call my friends . I love
solving complex problems although sometimes it can get tricky and collaborating with others to
expose myself to new perspectives.
Recently, I’ve been very Interested in Data Science, specifically impact it has on decision-making
for business and people. Last summer, I started exploring different aspects of Data Science such
as machine learning algorithms, visualization techniques, statistical analysis, and data cleaning
and preprocessing.
Here are a set of tools I’ve learned along the way:
Python Pandas
Scikit-learn
Matplotlib
Excel
SQL
Tableau
I also love art which I channel through my Instagram page mentioned below, watching shows on
Netflix, playing sports, and hanging out with my friends during my free time!
The Mind Supply is a wellness brand co-founded by my sister and me, I am also the graphic
designer.
A little backstory… we started this brand during the pandemic in 2020 where mental health
became a significant aspect in everyone’s lives. This motivated us to start an Instagram page
where we promote wellness tips, motivational quotes, and advice. We started with 0 followers
we’ve been able to reach more than 300k people. I also had an interest in creating art, so this
was a perfect opportunity to leverage these skills. I learned how to use Adobe Illustrator and
Procreate from watching YouTube videos and Google!
This phase of my life was transformative for me. I’ve learned so many new skills and techniques
such software applications, mastering the ins and outs of social media, and engaged with so
many different types of people from around the world.
Whenever I have free time, which seems to be hard to find this semester, I like to watch shows
on Netflix, play sports with my friends, and listen to music!
