SCHOOLS
A TALE OF TWO
SCHOOLS
• Case Study A and Case Study B are two examples of
Module Implementation and Professional
Development.
• We will start with Case Study A. As you read think
about:
• What are the strengths of this plan?
• What might go wrong with this plan?
• What should the principal do next?
• We will do the same with Case Study B.
• What can Principal B learn from Principal A? A from B?

ANALYSIS OF CURRENT PRACTICES
• As an instructional leader, how can I plan my year to assist teachers in
ELA curriculum module implementation?
• What professional development needs do I personally have to best
support implementation?
• How can I plan my time in order to best support teachers in my
building?
• How can I assist teachers in looking at student work and assessments
to guide instructional decisions and plan for future professional
development?
• How do you currently use time in the following areas? Do you
currently use this time for professional development?

“The best way to mitigate resistance to change is to be
intentional in planning PD that has taken into
consideration what people most need to be successful
and is transparent from the beginning . You have to show
people where they are going in the beginning. People
can meet a target when they know what it is.
ACTION STEPS
Now that you have analyzed how you currently use
“time” in various ways through out the school year:
• What are some new ways that you could use this time for
professional development.
• What specific steps do you need to take to support this
process.
• What specific tasks must you complete.
• What resources do you need to prepare.
