The abstract is a summary of the entire report and not an introduction to the report. It should be written with broadly understandable technical language and should be selfcontained, i.e. should not contain any references or citations. Also the usage of abbreviations and acronyms should be avoided, since the same acronyms or abbreviations can have different meanings on different research fields. The abstract should typically contain about 400 words and in any cases not more than one page. The definition of the research field and the most important outcome of the presented research are the obligatory components of the abstract. The main task of the introduction in the senior report is to present the logical chain Starting from the current state-of-the-art, Evaluation of its weaknesses, Formulation of the main problem, Showing the way of solving the problem and, Finishing with the contribution of the presented work to this solution. The introduction can consist of one text body, but it can also be differently structured. Typical components are the motivation and the aim of the project. The introduction has typically 1 to 4 pages. 1.1 Motivation The motivation should answer the following questions: Why the work has been done? For whom? What is its importance 1.2 Aim of the project The description of the project task should describe what is the technical aim of the work? What are the specific tasks? how it can be proved, that the task is reached? 1.3 Constraints What are the constraints of your work and how did you make sure they were met? Refer to the section in the report that deals with each constraint. Constrains may include but not limited to: Economical constrains (e.g. cost), Environmental constrains, Sustainability, Operational constrains, Health and Safety, Ethical, Political and Social. Discuss the applicable ones only. 1 Approved by the College of Engineering Senior Project committee 08-03-2021 1.4 Standards: What are the engineering standards used in your project? Refer to the section in the report where you take these standards into consideration. 1.5 Report Outline This briefly describes the content of the following Chapters. 2 Chapter 2 Theoretical Background and Literature Review In this chapter, you should present the background information needed for the proposed work of the thesis. The background chapter is typically subdivided in several subsections. In some cases, it is also more suitable to make more than one main chapter with diverse theoretical backgrounds, if needed. It is very important to conduct a literature review of the scholar research related to your topic. The selected journals should relatively new. At least three relevant scholars should be summarized and synthesized. The background and literature review chapter (or chapters) should not constitute more than 25-30% of the total text. It is recommendable that each chapter begins by an introductory paragraph or two. It is like a miniintroduction to this chapter. 2.1 First Section (size 16 Bold) Text size 12 Normal Line spacing 1.5 Especially important in the background presentation are the references on the most acknowledged books, articles or crucial WWW-links. It is recommended to use the Reference style provided in this template and use the cross-reference feature of Microsoft word or any other available tool like Mendeley [https://www.mendeley.com/]. An example reference [1] is provided in the end of this template. 2.1.1 Subsection (size 14 Bold) Text size 12 Normal 3 For figures (if needed), a figure could be inserted as .tif, .jpeg, or word picture. A caption should be inserted for each figure. The figure also needs to be referred to in the text. A list of figures is also provided in this template. Figure (1-1) The UOB Logo [ref] 2.1.2 Subsection Text size 12 Normal For tables (if needed), a table could be inserted using the table toolbar. A caption should be inserted for each table. Tables need to be referred to and explained in the text. A list of tables is also provided in this template. After outlining the problem in Chapter 1 and presenting the background information for your work Chapter 2, you start presenting your work and design steps in this chapter. Here you need to show how you took the constraints into consideration in your design and how the standards were used. This depends on the type of the project. 6 Chapter 4 Results and Discussion After the presenting your design and work, the results obtained are shown and discussed in this chapter. How do you know that your design worked and that the problem you started out to solve has actually been solved. If not solved, then you need to discuss the reasons and propose solutions. You discussion and justification should be supported with evidences from literature. 7 Chapter 5 Conclusion and Future Work Write your conclusions here. Typically, 1-2 paragraphs where you tell what the problem was and how it was solve. Then the main results in 1-2 paragraphs. In addition, you can describe topics for future research in the last paragraph. 8 References IEEE referencing style should be implemented It is recommended to use the cross-reference feature of Microsoft word or any other available tool like Mendeley [https://www.mendeley.com/] For more information on IEEE referencing click on the following link: IEEE Citation Guidelines2.doc (ieee-dataport.org) [1] Author Name, “Research title,” IEEE., vol. 40, pp. 303-312, June 2015.
