TOPIC
Ecological Relationship
GRADE LEVEL
Grade 7
TIME ALLOTMENT
1 hour
CONTENT
Different Ecological relationship in an Ecosystem
CONTENT STANDARD
The learners demonstrate an understanding of organisms interacting with each other
and with their environment to survive.
PERFORMANCE STANDARD
The learners should be able to conduct a collaborative action to preserve the ecosystem
in the locality.
LEARNING COMPETENCY
The learners should be able to describe the different ecological relationships found in an
ecosystem.
CODE

LEARNING MATERIALS
Science 7 Teacher’s Guide. 2013. pp. 105-113
SLM in Science. Module 5 pp. 1-36
OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
1. Describe the ecological relationships among living things;
2. Create a pair from the given set of organisms to form an ecological relationship.
3. Reflect on the importance of the different ecological relationships found in an
ecosystem.
1. ELICIT- 3 mins.
MATERIALS
Have the students recall the lesson Components of Ecosystem Tarpapel of Concept
by conducting the activity “Complete Me!” Ask them to pick
Map
from the set of terms and complete the concept map correctly.
Copy of Terms
Scotch Tape
2. ENGAGE – 5 mins.
Ask the students their understanding about the word
“relationship” based on the previous ESP lesson “Pagtatamo
ng bago at ganap na pakikipag-ugnayan (more mature
relations.)
Have the students observe the following pictures.
Pictures
Then, ask the following questions:
What relationships are shown in the pictures?
What other relationship do you know of?
Is this relationship limited to human beings only?
3. EXPLORE- 15 mins.
Let the students perform the activity entitled “Let’s be pair!”
Direction:
The students will pick a picture then they will put it on the
upper left of their chest. Find a partner whom you think a
relationship can take place. Discuss with your chosen partner
with what will happen when you pair with each other. Present
your work in front. You have 2 minutes to finish your
discussion and 1 minute to present your work
4. EXPLAIN- 15 mins.
The teacher will present and discuss the following ecological
relationship:
- Mutualism
- Commensalism
- Parasitism
- Predation
- Competition

Power point
presentation
Ask the student the type of relationship existing between the
pairs they create in their previous activity.
5. ELABORATE-10 mins.
Strengthen the concepts gained by the students in the activity
and discussion by asking the following questions.
How will you describe each ecological relationship?
What will happen if there are no ecological relationships?
Why are these relationships important in our ecosystem?
6. EVALUATE-10 mins.
Administer a short paper-pencil test.
I. MULTIPLE CHOICE. Select the correct answer. Write the letter
only.
1. What ecological relationship exists when the banana
plants are planted on the same area?
a. Commensalism
b. Competition
c. Predation
d. Parasitism
