Instruction Sheet: Periodic Table Coloring Activity
Instructions:
a. Use a periodic table and this instruction sheet
b. Do not write on this instruction sheet.
c. Follow the instructions that follow. Make a legend on the back
of your periodic table to show what each color/outline
represents.
d. When coloring with colored pencils, make sure you shade lightly
so you can still read everything on your periodic table.
e. Make sure you leave your station clean (all pencils put away)
before you leave class.
1. Label the groups with 1-18 at the top of each column.
2. Label the periods with 1-7 at the left of each row.
3. Color the Alkali Metals red. This is group 1.
4. Color the Alkaline Earth Metals blue. This is group 2.
5. Color the Transition Metals dark green. Groups 3-12.
6. Color the Aluminum Group brown. Group 13.
7. Color the Carbon Group purple. Group 14.
8. Color the Nitrogen Group pink. Group 15.
9. Color the Oxygen Group light blue. Group 16.
10. Color the Halogens orange. Group 17.
11. Color the Noble Gases yellow. Group 18
12. Color the Inner Transition Metals light green. (Actinide and
Lanthanide Series)
13. Outline the section of Metals in black.
14. Outline the section of Metalloids in green.
15. Outline the section of Nonmetals in red.
