Building Proteins from RNA Purpose: In this lab, I will explore the molecular process of building protein from the information carried by RNA using a laboratory procedure. Lab Question: My investigation question going into the lab was, “What steps occur within the cell to build proteins?" Hypothesis: My hypothesis is RNA determines the sequence of amino acids in proteins and polypeptides by a two-step process: transcription of DNA produces mRNA in the nucleus, then translation of the mRNA to tRNA takes place at the ribosome in the cytoplasm. Materials ● helicase ● human cell ● tRNA sequence ● protein structure chart Procedure 1. identify the antisense strand of the DNA within the cell nucleus 2. Transcribe the DNA to create the mRNA. 3. Locate the start, stop, and other codons on the mRNA 4. Match the mRNA codons to their tRNA anticodons and the attached amino acids. 5. Perform dehydration synthesis to build the amino acid chain in the ribosome. groups: ● The experimental group are the codons. ● The control group are the anticodons.
