General
Problem:
On new absorption units or after replacing the power supply board (031-01080-000) on the above referred units, the
1-line vacuum fluorescent display may exhibit one or more of the following incorrect display symptoms:
•
•
•
•
•
Incorrect characters
Stationary cursor under every character
Characters shifted to the right
Illuminated Boxes in place of normal characters
Dim display
Cause:
Power Supply Board 031-01080-000. Due to incompatibility with capacitor C8, Texas Instruments voltage regulator VR1 on the power supply breaks into oscillation, causing AC ripple content on +5vdc supply to the display
J1-1. Elevated temperatures accelerate this problem.
Solution:
Remove capacitor C8. Refer to Fig 1, page 2 to locate C8 on the power supply board. Due to close proximity to
other components, surrounding components could be damaged during C8 removal. Therefore, to avoid damage
to surrounding components, do not try to completely remove C8. Instead, using a small wire-cutting tool, cut one
lead of capacitor C8 and bend it slightly upward away from the board so that the lead is not touching the board.
Cutting one lead will effectively remove the capacitor from the circuit.
