Helping Hand
Classroom-Based Activities
I. Greeting
Warm greetings for the learners.
II. Check In
Learners will be asked if how are they for today’s activity.
III. Emotion Check
An Emoticon Chart will be used to identify the emotion of each learner.
IV. Energy Check
If the class lacks energy, an energizer will be introduced.
V. Setting Guidelines
Psychosocial activity guidelines will be introduced to the class. Each learner
will be encouraged to add more guidelines to encourage ownership of the
rules.
VI. Main Activity
1. Learners will be asked to trace around their hands on either paper
(bond or construction paper) or recycled cardboard. They will then cut

Learners will be asked to make at least 2-3 sets of hands, or a total of at
least 6 hand cutouts.
They will then be tasked to draw (or create a symbol representing the
person) the person and write the name of the persons they trust the
most. One name per hand. If learners are unable to find someone they
trust in their home, encourage them to look around the classroom in
case they would like to write the names of their classmates or teachers.
They will then attach their hand cut-outs to a popsicle stick, or twig.
Each learner will then be invited to share about their artworks in front
with their answers being acknowledged and complimented.
VII. Synthesis
Learners will be asked with the following questions:
1. How do you feel now after doing the activity?
2. When you look at your “helping hands”, what do you think about the
people in your life?
3. When you turn to these persons, how do they make you feel?
VIII. Closing
Learners will be told of the following key message:
“It is important to have a support system of people that you can trust, who
have your best interests at heart in order to work through difficult times.”
IX. Noting Red Flags
If any red flag is noticed among learners and that someone needs extra care,
the protocols for reporting in school for further psychosocial support shall be
observed.
