DUE MARCH 4TH February Book of the Month Project Fall in Love with a Book – Online Book Dating Profile For this month’s BOM Project, you are going to create an “online dating profile” for your book! Remember, for your chosen BOOK, not a character in the book. REQUIREMENTS: Book Title and Author “Age” o Date of publication Picture of the Book Cover o This can be hand-drawn or a printed photo of the cover. It should take up a small space toward the top of the page to provide a visual for the “Physical Appearance” section. “Picture Gallery” o Pull 2 important symbols to incorporate somewhere on your profile. The symbols should be directly related to your book and should be described either in the “About Me” or “Plot Overview” section of your paper. Description of “Physical Appearance” o Describe the outside cover of the book and the jacket of the book (if applicable). Is it paperback? Hardcover? 5 Adjectives to Describe the Book “About Me” o Provide a summary of the book, including any important characters and main ideas being portrayed. This does NOT have to include all aspects of the plot, but it should include general information about the book. This should be AT LEAST 3-4 sentences. “Why You Should Check Me Out” o Convince people as to why this book is worth reading. You can talk about awards or accolades the book has received, awards the author has received, or other persuasive elements to draw in potential readers. o Use AT LEAST one of the three rhetorical device techniques we have covered: logos, pathos, and/or ethos. “Ideal Reader Description” o What type of reader would enjoy this book? What genre is it? What type of reader would the content appeal to? Quotes to Describe Me o Choose 2 important quotations from the book that could be used to describe the overall “vibe”, or tone, of the book. You must provide a brief analysis of these quotes to tell your reader WHY THOSE QUOTES ARE IMPORTANT TO AND SHOWCASE YOUR ENTIRE BOOK (not just at the literary present!) DUE MARCH 4TH February Book of the Month Project o MUST include correctly formatted MLA citations for both. Plot Overview/Summary o A brief description of the plot (fiction) or progression and development of ideas (nonfiction) so the reader knows the details of the book. This should NOT be the same information as the “About Me” section—this one should have more detail and specifics about the book. o This can be a plot diagram; HOWEVER, you still have to have the same level of detail as if you were writing it in prose format. “Likes” and “Dislikes” o BE CREATIVE! This does not have to be literal things that characters in the book like or dislike! o For example, for a book from the Harry Potter series, you could write “Dislikes: Slytherins” or something of the sort. Make it neat! This can be made on a computer format or done by hand—the content is the most important part. Below is a layout sample for you, but you can adjust the content placement in whatever way you may need. Name, Class Period, and Date Turned In on the BACK of the page. SCORING: On the due date of the project, we will be doing a “Speed Dating” activity where you will have to trade papers with multiple classmates, complete a peer review, and decide whether you would bookmark it to read later or swipe to the next book instead. Scoring will be based on the following: Components: you have all of the above information somewhere on your project. o Book title, author, “age”, picture of cover, picture gallery, “physical appearance”, 5 adjectives, “about me”, “why you should check me out”, “ideal reader description”, quotes, plot overview, “likes”/”dislikes”, your name/class period/date submitted. Depth: On sections that require explanation or expansion on your ideas, you should ensure that you provide a sufficient amount of analysis and information. Remember, during the peer review and scoring process, it is likely that the people you exchange papers with have not read your book. You have to give enough detail about the book to convince them that it’s worth reading. Language/Grammar: proper English grammar and sentence conventions are followed and met throughout the project. o For example, on the quotes section, your analysis should be AT LEAST 3 sentences, if not more. Overall Appearance: Student clearly gave much effort to the overall appearance. The project is neat, balanced, colorful, and eye-appealing
