Distortion
•
Create a “warm”, “dirty”
and fuzzy sound by
compressing the peaks
of sound waves and
adding overtones

Talk Box
•
A talk box is an effects unit
that allows musicians to
modify the sound of a
musical instrument by
shaping the frequency
content of the sound and to
apply speech sounds (in the
same way as singing) onto
the sounds of the instrument.

Pitch Bend
•
A smooth uninterrupted glide in
passing from one tone to
another, especially with the
voice or a bowed stringed
instrument.
•
This electric keyboard contains
a pitch bend wheel which
changes the pitch much like the
way a guitarist bends a string or
uses a whammy bar.

Delay
•
Delay is an audio signal
processing technique that
records an input signal to a
storage medium and then plays
it back after a period of time.
When the delayed playback is
mixed with the live audio, it
creates an echo-like effect,
whereby the original audio is
heard followed by the delayed
audio.

Auto tune
•
A device or facility for
tuning something
automatically, especially
a piece of computer
software that enables
the correction of an outof-tune vocal
performance.

Phaser
•
A phaser is an electronic sound
processor used to filter a signal,
and it has a series of troughs in
its frequency-attenutation graph.
The position (in Hz) of the peaks
and troughs are typically
modulated by an internal lowfrequency oscillator so that they
vary over time, creating a
sweeping effect.

Sound Effects
•
•
An imitative sound, as of
thunder or and explosion,
produced artificially for theatrical
purposes, as for a film, play, or
radio program. Often used in the
plural.
Sound Effects are the most
commonly used kind of effects.
We hear them in the films,
games, radios, songs,
advertisement, etc.
