3. Explain how being a Filipino affects your “self.”
Being a Filipino is one of the best thing that we have because of our unique traditions and cultures.
For example, giving respect to someone especially to our elders, we do “mano”, and constantly
using “po” and “opo”. Filipinos welcome their guests as if they are their own brothers and sisters
by always making them feel at home. They will bring out their best sets of plates for their honored
guests and would even go as far as spending a lot of money and going into debt just so they can
satisfy them. Filipino people are known to be hospitable, a real patriot, and religious. These are
some of characteristics of Filipino that are known globally. I can say that it affects my “self” as I
can adopt these characteristics to become a better version of myself. I adopt the attitude of being
optimistic that despite of any problems and challenges that I am facing right now, I can still manage
put a smile on my face and I can still make other people laugh because Filipinos have cheerful
personality and we can find a reason to be happy and to be grateful. Filipinos have strong faith in
God that make us stronger in facing difficulties in life. Through the influence of fellow Filipino
people, I can also develop and enhance myself to become better citizen knowing that I am also a
real Filipino. Those characteristics I have mentioned influence me a lot to become a good person.

SELF-REGULATED LEARNING PORTFOLIO
Unit 2 – Lesson 5 Political Self
Name:
Aiah Brein N. Lumada
Course, Yr., & Section BSIE-1B
Instruction:
Supply each section with necessary response to get 25 points.
SUMMARIZE
• Summarize the most important points you have learned in
this lesson in one paragraph.
Politics is refers to the way that countries are governed
and how they make rules and laws. The next topic is
about the different levels of active citizenship; local
level, regional and national level, international level.
Local-level wherein the life of the citizens are become
actively involved in their communities, tackling
problems, bringing about change, or resisting unwanted
change. At regional and national levels, citizens involve
voting in democratic, being in campaigning groups, and
a member of a political party. International level is
involved in movements to promote environmental
sustainability or fair trade. Active citizens are people
who are involved in public life and affairs. This lesson
tackled also what active citizens do are; civil
participation and civic engagement. In civil
participation, people are involved with each other to
pursue their goals and interests while civil engagement
is more on formal routes of public participation in the
process of governance. Last is about democracy and it is
consists of 4 key elements according to Larry Diamond ;
First is a political system for choosing and replacing the
government through free and fair elections, second is
the active participation of the people, as citizens in
politics and civic life, third is protection of human rights
of all citizens; and lastly, a rule of law, in which the laws
and procedures apply equally to all citizens.
RECALL
• Recall meaningful points (useful or valuable things) from the
lesson you learned.
The meaningful point from the lesson I learned is about
Democracy. Democracy is a form of government im
which the people have authority to choose their
governing and people can change their rules in a
peaceful manner. Because of democracy, it gives
freedom to vote and give an equal opportunity to
participate without people’s human rights being
violated.
QUESTION
• Formulate questions. (What are the most confusing points,
and why they were confusing?)
I am confused if it is necessary that a citizen must be at
the local level first before he/she will be in
regional/national level or citizens could be part of these
three different levels at the same time?
CONNECT
• Connect idea(s) you can add and should put into practice
immediately.
Idea about Self-sacrificing attitude. Self-sacrificing
attitude is about sacrificing ourselves for other's sake to
the point we give everything we have. It means that we
understand what we do in political self. We know what
is right and we know how to correct ourselves if needed.
COMMENT
• Comment on the value of your learning. (What is/are the
importance of your learning for you as a student or as a
human being in general?)
Our political self is important. Knowing our political self
help us become good citizen. It is very important to care
about politics because you should know what is going on
around you. For example, if a new law is made is made
in your area, you might want to make sure that you and
the people around you know that a new law has been
made so that no one breaks the law without even
knowing it. Also, if something dangerous is happening
around you or someone you know, you want to be aware
if someone is breaking the law. It is very important to
know what is happening around you. Each vote makes a
difference in the ways that we live. It is always
important to share your opinion. The way you vote will
affect many people, and their everyday life. We must
also know our self-identity not just living in the shadow
of others. Know our traits. Let's be leader of ourselves
and dreams. Be confident that we can do it though
people will say we cannot. Be mindful to yourself. You
won't know success if you don't fail.
