story. Usually use the order to organize
ideas. A report usually tells who, what,
when, where, and why.
SUPPORTING YOUR IDEAS BY REPORTING A PERSONAL EXPERIENCE
Reporting a personal
experience can be an effective
way of supporting an idea.
REPORTING WHAT SOMEONE SAID
Rules:
In writing, you will
need to report
exactly what
someone said.
 Put the speaker’s exact word inside
quotation marks.
 A comma sparates the quotation from the
rest of the sentence.
 Capitalize the first word of the quote.
 Put periods, commas, or question marks
inside the final quotation mark.
An unexpected incident occurred at the Griya Jaya housing
complex in Tanjung Uban last night at 9pm. The house belonging to
Mr.Andi's family was burnt and not left charred. The incident occurred
because the owner of the house was charging his cellphone on his
refrigerator. Mr.Boby, who was passing by the house, heard a big
explosion until the house caught fire. "When I passed Mr.Andi's house,
suddenly there was a very loud explosion sound. I was so shocked
that I almost fell off the motorbike." said Mr. Boby. In the accident,
Mr.Andi suffered a loss of approximately Rp. 800 million including
several important documents such as a birth certificate, diploma and
land certificates. Fortunately, when the incident happened, the owner
of the house, Mr. Andi was going to perform tahlilan at a neighbor's
house, while his wife was returning home.
