Objectives:
1. To develop skills measuring chemicals with a graduated
cylinder.
2. To practice using the metric system.
3. To test precision and ability to follow directions.
4. To practice lab safety procedures.

Label 6 test tubes in order A,B,C,D,E, & F.
Fill a beaker half full with water. Use this to rinse your graduated cylinder and test tubes.
The second beaker is for contaminated waste water.
Into test tube A, measure 12.5mL of Red Liquid.
Into test tube C, measure 8.5 mL of Yellow liquid.
Into test tube E, measure 10.5 mL of Blue liquid.
Procedure: Part 2
From test tube C, measure 2mL and pour into test tube D.
From test tube E, measure 3.5mL and pour into test tube D. Swirl.
From test tube E, measure 2mL and pour into test tube F.
From test tube A, measure 3.5mL and pour into test tube F. Swirl.
From test tube A, measure 4mL and pour into test tube B.
From test tube C, measure 1.5mL and pour into test tube B. Swirl.
SAVE your results. Measure the contents of each test tube and record how many mL were in each test
tube.

Conclusion
Make sure to use complete sentences. It is important for others to understand your results, be clear in what
you say, reread it after you write it, does it make sense?
1. State the purpose of the experiment.
2. Tell your expected outcome.
3. a. Give evidence from your data. (Tell the total amount of liquid when added up test tubes)
b. Calculate the percent error your team had in measuring by comparing your observed total (total
liquid in test tubes A-F) with the expected total of 31.5 ml. Show all your work!!
4. Tell a mistake (real or possible) and tell how it could have or did affect the data.
5. What could you have done differently to make your data more accurate and reliable.
6. Sum up what you learned from this experiment in one sentence.
