Definitions of Globalization: A Comprehensive Overview and a Proposed Definition
Title of the Article
1. Three (3) Things that I significantly learned from the readings
From the readings, I have learned that plenty of authors tried to develop a meaning
for globalization, which only proved how fluid and complex it is. Several people who had
studied and researched the topic already know that defining globalization is a useless and
a difficult task since it varies from person to person. However, this means that talking about
it helps promote better ideas for working together and creating more effective policies for
national and global economies. Lastly, I have learned that an abundance of definition of
globalization encourages healthy discussion for people to gain insight on and on which
they can then combine all their learnings and add their own idea—contributing to the
discourse.
2. Three (3) Things that are still unclear to me
After reading the article, it was unclear to me that although the authors had made
the paper to examine the available definitions to better understand the idea, reading all
those views still confused me, but some had supported what I already had in mind. Also,
they found out that the works out there did little to arrive at a clear understanding. Despite
doing their best, their expectations were not met but were still able to propose a broad
definition. Lastly, I was confused why people are still interested in describing globalization
but in my opinion, they would just like to participate in this grand discussion that has been
going on for decades.
3. I used to think that….
I used to think that describing the phenomenon for which countries cooperate and
coordinate for the betterment of society would not be quite difficult. I was greatly mistaken.
After reading more than a hundred meanings of globalization, it was obvious that a lot of
people from various countries with different cultures and beliefs had done their best,
whether subjective or objective, to simplify the complicated concept. This signifies its
importance to this ever-changing world.
4. Three (3) questions that I want to ask about the readings
About the study, I want to ask the authors how they formed a collected opinion of
globalization including and affecting the spread of bacteria and natural disasters. Secondly,
I want to ask authors for examples if there are countries facing more problems and
experiencing losses due to globalization. Finally, I want to ask why many researchers tend
to lean more on the economic aspects than focusing on the social and political parts.
