PRE - QUIZ
Your quiz questions and handbooks will be given to you by your Quizmaster.
You will receive a Quiz day schedule.
Attend staff / training meeting.
QUIZ SET-UP
A team may have up to two members.
Quizzers should sit by Book Group, in a row, facing the audience.
They should be numerically in order from left to right.
Clubbers compete against others in their Book Group using “Jeopardy type” buttons.
QUESTIONS
Speed Quiz consists of 15 questions.
The Quizmaster will preface each question with the word "Question."
No talking is allowed after the word "Question."
The Quizmaster will repeat the question if no one attempts to answer after the first reading.
After a question is read twice, “Time” should be called if no one responds within 10 seconds.
ANSWERS
The first quizzer activating his/her light MUST give an answer.
A quizzer has 10 seconds to begin their answer after he/she is recognized and is in position to answer.
Anything said, for example, “My answer is . . .,” constitutes beginning an answer.
30 additional seconds are given to complete the answer.
After a quizzer is recognized, no additional help can be given.
After an answer is given the Quizmaster will ask, “Is that your answer?”
This is to get a commitment from the quizzer that his/her answer is the one he/she wants the Judges to rule on.
Quizzers may change their answer if they wish to do so, and if time remains of the additional 30 seconds.
The last answer given is the one ruled correct or incorrect.
If a quizzer responds before a question is completed, the Quizmaster will stop. The quizzer must then give a
SPECIFIC answer. (See Extraneous Information)
Scripture verses must be recited WORD PERFECT and must include the complete reference, unless the
reference was given in the question. “A” or “B” in a reference is not required.
"Reciting from" and “Using words from” means the answer must be a quotation from the verse.
"According to" means the answer must be according to the verse or handbook item mentioned in the
question. It does NOT have to be word perfect. For example, Question: According to Acts 16:31, what
happens to those who believe? Answer: They will be saved. NOT: They will have eternal life.
"Thinking about" means the answer can be in the quizzer's own words, but must be close to what the
handbook states.
Questions asked, other than Scripture quotations, may be answered in the clubber’s own words, but
must be close to what the handbook states.
The Quizmaster should always give the correct answer if an incorrect or no answer is given.
INCORRECT ANSWERS
If the first answer is incorrect, the team buzzing in second must answer the question for half points.
Giving two wrong answers disqualifies a clubber from answering any further Speed Quiz questions. An alternate
may take their place. This is called a “Two Question Quiz Out.”
Help from the audience is considered an incorrect answer even if the answer is correct.
EXTRANEOUS INFORMATION
Answers that contain extraneous information may be considered incorrect, even if the correct answer is included.
This is a judgment call. However, for example, Question: Reciting from John 3:16, whom does God love?
Answer: The world. If the quizzer answers by reciting the whole verse it should be counted wrong. They did not
give a specific answer.
In lists, if asked to give “three of the six” and the quizzer recites all six that is acceptable IF ALL THEY GIVE IS
CORRECT. If they list seven, that is extraneous and should be counted incorrect.
BUZZING IN SECOND
Quizzers may buzz in second anytime while the question or answer is being given.
The Quizmaster will reread the question. The quizzer has five seconds to begin answering.
THREE CORRECT ANSWERS
. . . eliminates clubber from further Speed quizzing. This is a “Three Question Quiz Out.” Clubbers will receive bonus
points and they must leave the platform. An alternate may take their place.
ALTERNATES
May be substituted in only at the Halfway Point (after the 7th question) or if someone quizzes out (3 right, or 2 wrong).
The Scorekeeper MUST be notified of a substitution.
YOUR DUTIES
Read the questions silently as the Quizmaster asks them. Notify the Quizmaster tactfully and immediately
when an error is made in the reading.
Know which Bible version each quizzer is to answer from. Concentrate on that answer.
Take into consideration the length of the answer and the clubber’s fluency. When time is called, a quizzer should not
be cut off in the middle of an answer unless he/she is having trouble with it.

Help to determine if each quizzer's answer is correct. If necessary, use Bible and handbooks to help in your decision.
Confer with the Quizmaster whenever he desires your counsel. Judges do not have to be referred to if an answer is
clearly right or wrong.
Notify the Quizmaster tactfully and immediately when an error is made in rendering a decision.
APPEALS
Only an official Coach may challenge a question or answer.
They may do so by calling “Question” BEFORE THE NEXT QUESTION IS ASKED.
The Coach will confer privately with the Quizmaster and Judges.
Other Coaches may listen but are not permitted to speak, unless requested.
ALL Coaches should return to their seats, letting the Quizmaster and Judges make the final decision.
The Quizmaster should announce briefly the appeal and decision.
No appeals can be made on appeals.
Coaches may put in writing and give to the Quiz Director any decisions they feel are unsatisfactory.
TIME-OUTS
May only be called by the Quizmaster
