INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON POLYGENERATION
OVERVIEW
Energy drives the world and is chosen based on four qualities: affordable, available, reliable and
clean. These four qualities can be attained using the renewable energy/cogeneration systems
. Emerging
technologies for smaller, “decentralised”, electricity generation also allow power providers to produce
electricity near to the point of use(rather than near the source of fuel as for many conventional large
scale power stations), with reduced losses in long distance transmission of power, reduced costs in
reinforcing the power transmission network, and improved opportunities for 'co-generation' of power
and heat, with the use of 'waste' heat in homes and workplaces
.
In the Polygeneration system, cogeneration of multiple energy services using flexible fuel input
to allow for a sustainable energy mix will be in focus
. It refers to the combined production of
electricity with heat, cold and any other useful products as it includes conventional cogeneration,
trigeneration, as well as technologies for producing fuels and other value added products such
as potable water, dry air etc.
The first and second European Conference on Polygeneration were organised in 2007 and 2011 by
CREVER group of Universitat Rovira i Virgili, Tarragona, Spain under the EU Research and Demonstration
Projects namely POLYCITY and CONCERTO. These two conferences provided platforms to promote
discussions and exchange of ideas between scientists and industrialists on the use of energy efficient
technologies, processes and products not only from Europe, but also from all over the world. In
continuation, the next International Conference on Polygeneration, ICP 2015 is being organised at
Anna University, Chennai, India, during February 18-20, 2015 to reach the goals for the clean and
sustainable energy technologies in future
