be baffling, the PCB connector stacking guide allows a simple step by step system to find the perfect
mating connector design solution. You’ll be guided to the lowest cost option, we want to help you design in the perfect balance of a great design solution at a great price!
Simply enter the PCB stacking dimension required (metric or imperial), then use the simple narrow
your search facility which allows multiple choices for you to compare and contrast solutions. The search
displays results 0.5mm either side of your desired PCB stack height to offer alternative options where
your design is flexible.
You may search by:
▪ Connector Pitch: From 1.00mm (0.039”) pitch to 5.08mm (0.200”).
▪ Number of rows: Single, dual, triple or quad row connectors.
▪ PCB mount type: surface mount, through-hole or a mixture of the two,
for example, SMT header with through-hole PCB socket.
Once you’ve found your perfect PCB mating solution, both halves of the connector may then be added

Insulators are produced in Polyamide 6T (Nylon 6T) or LCP as standard, both materials are suitable for with standing high temperature wave and reflow RoHS solder processes.

• Base material of either Brass or Phosphor bronze depending on product.
Brass:
▪ Lowest cost.
▪ Good spring properties and strength.
▪ Reasonably good conductor.
Phosphor bronze:
▪ Good strength and conductivity.
▪ Superior elasticity.
▪ Excellent fatigue resistance.
Plating:
• Base pins and contacts under-plated with nickel.
• Final layer of metal plating added to allow improved conductivity, high temperature protection
and provide resistance to corrosion and wear.
• Plating materials: Finish plating is available in variants of gold and/or tin.
Gold:
▪ Excellent corrosion resistance and durability.
▪ Excellent conductivity and low resistance.
▪ General Rule: Use thicker gold for applications above 100 cycles and less than 1 Amp.
Tin:
▪ Excellent solderability and conductivity.
▪ Low durability and can form an oxide film.
• Plating options:
▪ Various levels of gold thickness available.
▪ Options for gold in contact area and tin in solder area (selective plating).

Custom PCB Connectors
Custom PCB connectors are a perfect solution when you need an application specific connector. We understand that
you would rather stick to an standard product offering, but some designs call for something out of the ordinary.
Board to Board Custom
GradConn offer a full custom connector service, from making minor changes on existing products to designing
and manufacturing bespoke connectors. With affordable and flexible tooling our experienced engineers will guide
you every step of the way, from helping design a solution specific to your needs, onto first draft drawings, then
samples, approvals and production. Turnaround time on design to finish can take from a few days to a few weeks
depending on complexity. Examples of special connectors include:
Custom mating lead lengths on PCB
headers –
Drawings offer selectable lead length
in both socket mating pins and PCB
terminating pins, minimums are
reasonable.
Non standard pin spacing pitch –
This example is 2.54mm between pins
and 3.5mm between rows, we can offer other variations upon request.
Custom SMT lead lengths –
Often selectable on GradConn
drawings, if our parts don’t fit the
PCB footprint you require, contact us.
Bladed mating pins –
Allows connection to tab receptacle
type connectors but uses a 0.64mm
square pin for PCB termination.
Blanked holes on sockets and
missing pins on headers –
Offering an inexpensive method of
connector polarization. Pin header
may only be terminated to socket in
correct orientation with the use of
this feature, this is especially useful in
applications where you don’t have the
space for a shrouded header solution.

Coaxial Cable Assembly Overview
Micro coaxial cable assembly (from 0.80mm to RG178) for wireless applications, such as GSM, GPS, Wireless
LAN (WLAN), Wi-Fi, Wi-Max, Zigbee and Bluetooth. GradConn offer original Hirose and Murata products and also
economic and intermatable I-PEX alternatives which are pluggable to Hirose and Murata.
I-PEX are a high quality Japanese manufacturer, established 1984. Customers should test samples to approve the use
of I-PEX connectors, however GradConn have many satisfied customers who previously used major brands. GradConn
use original I-PEX tooling.
Popular choices for the opposite end of micro cables are SMA female, RP SMA and FME male bulkhead connectors.
These options allow customers to mount the interface connectors to a bulkhead through a cut out hole and plug in an
antenna or further extension cable on the opposite side of the bulkhead.
