On May 30, 2014 MnSCU will upgrade D2L from version 10.1 to version 10.3

This is an overview of the changes that users will experience after the upgrade.

Note: This includes new features introduced in versions 10.2 and 10.3

Overall Changes

• Command buttons float on screen: scroll up or down and command buttons remain visible and clickable

• HTML editor displays buttons for settings instead of appearing as a blank box until after user clicks in it

• Quicklinks menu list of tools with callouts to items

• Friendly notice when your session has been inactive for a period of time-and it takes you back to right where you were even if you have to log back in

• Document Viewer does auto-resize to fit screen (Content and Dropbox)

• My Courses —the collapse expand state is retained

Content Changes – Navigation

• Expandable/collapsible Content map displays on left

• Quick navigation to any module or topic

• Can drag and drop files from desktop onto Content map

• Tablets: swipe left to expand, swipe right to collapse (iPad or

Android)

• Content will remember and retain the collapsed or expanded state of modules

• Expand or Collapse single module

• Expand All or Collapse All options

• Students can collapse completed modules

Content Changes – Creating Items

• Content Overview is more intuitive

• Create any activity from Content

(consistent process for any activity)

• Note: reduced feature list for some tools (full list of options still available from tool —example—Dropbox)

• After creation of new item, instructor is automatically returned to Content (rather than to the Tool where the item was created, dropbox, quiz, etc.)

• Quicklinks creation is comprehensive and intuitive

• Drag and drop files from desktop to Content map

• Discussion topics or forums that were deleted can be restored, including posts and statistics from the forum or topic

• If a single discussion post is deleted, it can be restored, if the role has the appropriate permission

Discussion features deprecated

• Grid view is no longer available

• Shared forums are no longer available

• Existing shared forums are migrated to the level at which they were created

• Shared forum feature can be mimicked by creating it at the desired level and then linking to it from a navbar link, widget, or global news item

• Most commonly used features are arranged from left to right in the Quiz tabs

• Adding a submission view includes a setting to allow all students the same duration of time to view the quiz submission after completing the quiz.

Quiz Tool Improvements

• Matching question type has drop-down menu for students to select a number (cannot simply type a number in)

• Quiz Score recalculation and saving no longer requires multiple scrolling up and down on screen

• Submission View setting for duration of view (24 hours after taking quiz) ensures all students have access for a consistent period of time

• Changes to organization of settings on Quiz tabs

• Evaluate (add score and feedback) for students without dropbox submissions directly from Dropbox tool

• Evaluate external submissions directly from Dropbox tool

• Evaluate Submissions options to publish immediately or save feedback as draft for later publishing

• Upload feedback in bulk

• Restore deleted dropbox folders

Dropbox External or No Submission

• Enter feedback for students who did not submit to dropbox, or who submitted a file outside of D2L

Dropbox – Publish Submission Feedback

• When evaluating dropbox submissions, options to publish immediately for student to view, or save the feedback as a draft and publish it later

• Why: to provide feedback to students at the same time, rather than as each submission is graded

Dropbox – Upload feedback in bulk

• Download dropbox submissions to a zip file

• Open individual files and annotate

• Save files to a zip file and upload the file using “Add

Feedback Files” button

• Go to Dropbox and Publish

• Students can open and view their feedback file

Dropbox – Restore deleted dropbox folder

1. From Dropbox folder list, go to Event Log

2. Locate folder name: Click Restore

3. This restores the folder, all the file submissions and the feedback

Note: It is only possible to restore an entire folder and its contents

This feature will not allow restoration of individual files that have been deleted from a dropbox folder that has not been deleted
