the characters’ personalities (flipchart).
2. Complete discussion of The Great Gatsby. In groups,
talk specifically about the language/literary devices in
the following passages and then share out to class:
East vs. West Egg (pp. 9-11)
Valley of the ashes (pp. 27-28)
Daisy’s breakdown before her wedding (pp. 80-81)
Hotel scene (pp. 132-142)
Recollection of Daisy and Gatsby’s courtship (pp.
156-159)
3. After reading Robert Reich article as a class, discuss
irony between economic inequality today and material
inequality during the Roaring 20’s.
