Figure S1: Prostate and breast cancer cell lines.
(A) LNCaP is a prostate cancer cell line that is androgen dependent, which cannot proliferate in
androgen depleted media (RPMI 1640, 10% charcoal dextran treated fetal bovine serum
“ctFBS”). PC-3 and DU-145 cells are androgen-independent and grow in the absence of
androgens in serum (ctFBS). Western blot analysis of endogenous AR and -tubulin in prostate
cancer cell lines. (B) T47D and MCF-7 are two breast cancer cell lines that are estrogendependent and do not proliferate in absence of estrogen (ctFBS). SKBr3 proliferates in the
absence of estrogen deprived media (ctFBS). Western Blot analysis of endogenous ER and tubulin in breast cancer cell lines. The proliferation in all cases was measured by the MTT
method. Absorbance at 550nm corresponds to living cells. The graphs show the mean values of
a single experiment performed in triplicate, representative at least of three independent
experiments.
