must have a plan and you will be evaluated in part on the execution of your plan.
The contest begins with a kickoff luncheon on November 11, 2014. As soon as you submit this form,
your social media activities will be considered for the contest. Therefore, submit your form as soon as
possible on or after November 11, 2014. The deadline to submit this form is by the end of the day
January 12, 2015, although the contest will be well underway by then. Email your completed form to
Naomi Neilsen at gaynorna@law.msu.edu with a copy to Dan Linna at linnadan@law.msu.edu. The
subject line of your email must be: MSULaw #SocialMedia Contest Entry
1. What is your overall goal? (E.g. “I want to connect with X# of attorneys in X practice area.”)
2. What is your overall strategy? (E.g. “I will create a blog under my name and write about
developments in practice area X from my perspective. I will follow on Twitter and LinkedIn
attorneys and organizations doing things in this practice area, specifically in [geographic region],
where I would like to practice after law school.”)
3. What is your current usage of social media? (E.g. “Approximately once a month I post a
discussion in LinkedIn. Approximately once a week I retweet content in Twitter.” “Other than a
LinkedIn profile, I have no social media presence.”)
4. Which attorneys serve as your model or inspiration for using social media? (E.g. “Turtle Talk
(http://turtletalk.wordpress.com/), an MSU Law blog on Indigenous Law and Policy, is an
example of the kind of blog I would like to develop. This program is also a great model for how
to use Twitter (@ILPCTurtleTalk) to promote a blog.”)
5. What is your “listening” strategy? (E.g. “I will use Freedly, Flipboard, and Twitter (including
Twitter lists) to follow thought leaders and influencers related to my niche and practice area of
interest.”)
6. What social media will you use? E.g. (“I will blog at [insert link] and tweet [insert handle] to
promote my blog and to curate content and engage with others interested in practice area X.”)
7. What is your content generation strategy and plan? (E.g. “I will write at least on blog post a
week and send out ten tweets a week. I will follow other attorneys who are interested in
practice area X. Every day I will spend at least 15 minutes reviewing tweets and at least twice a
day retweet content related to practice area X.” Second e.g. “I will write one blog post a week,
start one to two LinkedIn discussions a week, and send out 10-15 tweets per week.”)
8. What is your relationship-building strategy and plan? (E.g. “I will send out at least two tweets a
week attempting to engage with the author of an interesting blog post or tweet. I will also seek
out opportunities to strengthen relationships with people I meet through social media, such as
by introducing myself if we both attend the same event.”)
