2. Groups or Families- the vertical groups on the Periodic Table. (Hint- Think of brothers and
sisters)
3. Periods- the horizontal groups on the Periodic Table.
4. Atomic Number- the atomic number tells the number of protons or electrons in an atom of that
element. Elements on the Periodic Table are organized according to their atomic number.
5.
To find the number of neutrons, you just subtract the atomic number (the number
on top) from the atomic mass (the number on the bottom.)
6. Exothermic- Heat exiting or leaving. It gets warmer.
7. Endothermic- Heat is coming in. It gets colder.
8. Element- A pure substance that cannot be separated into simpler separated substances
by physical or chemical means.
9. Compound- a pure substance composed of two or more elements that are chemically combined
10. Chemical Symbol- One capitol letter ex.) Ne
11. Chemical Formula- More than one capitol letter ex.) H2O
12. Chemical Equation- uses chemical formulas to describe a chemical reactions

14. Know these definitions
a. Law of Conservation of Energy- energy cannot be created or destroyed.
b. Law of Conservation of Mass- mass cannot be created or destroyed.
c. Periodic- having a regular of repeating pattern
15. Know the parts of the atom
a. Electron- negative
b. Neutron- Neutral
c. Proton- Positive
d. Nucleus- center of the atom which contains protons and electrons. This is the densest
part of the atom.
e. Electron Cloud- the location outside of the Nucleus. The electron cloud contains the
electrons.
16.
This atom is helium atom because it has to 2 protons.
