4-H Project Activities and

Exhibit Requirements

Project: Plants and Soils 2 – Stems and Stamens

Suggested for: intermediate members

Latest Starting Date: March 1

Recommended Project Activities:

• Germinate seeds and observe root growth.

• Experiment with different seed germination methods.

• Learn how to root plant cuttings.

• Learn how to “air layer” a plant.

• Give a talk or demonstration related to the project.

Project Exhibit Requirements:

Prepare a display or poster that illustrates an activity from the project manual. The display should demonstrate an understanding of the composition of plants, the functions of individual plant parts, plant life cycles, and the many ways plants reproduce. Include your project journal that documents activity recordkeeping, answers activity questions, and details personal thoughts and ideas. Table-top displays should be limited to 2’ wide x 15” deep and maximum poster size for hanging is 22” x 30”.

Exhibitors age 10 and older must fill out a 1 page 4-H Exhibit Report to include with their exhibit. The 4-H Exhibit Report can be found on our county website at http://web.extension.uiuc.edu/sangamonmenard/4hyouth1157.html

under the printable forms section. If you do not have internet access you can contact your 4-H leader, or call the Extension Office to receive a copy of the report form.

EXHIBIT ELIGIBLE FOR STATE FAIR -- 4-H member must be 10 years of age by September 1 of the current 4-H year to exhibit at the

State Fair.
