Purpose
People credited with this unit standard are able to: describe the
operational characteristics, performance, and limitations of a
diesel haul truck; describe safety systems and conditions for
operating a diesel haul truck; check readiness and operate a
diesel haul truck; and unload and shut down a diesel haul truck,
and complete documentation, in an underground operation.

approved codes of practice issued pursuant to the HSE Act.

Definitions
Company procedures mean the documented methods for performing work activities

Industry best practice may be documented in management plans, control plans,
company procedures, managers’ rules, occupational health and safety policy,
industry guidelines, codes of practice, manufacturers’ instructions, and safe working
and/or job procedures (or equivalent).

Describe the operational characteristics, performance, and limitations of a diesel haul truck
in an underground operation.

A diesel haul truck is described in terms of its operational characteristics,
performance and limitations.

Outcome 2
Describe safety systems and conditions for operating a diesel haul truck in an
underground operation.
Evidence requirements
2.1
The safety systems and conditions for the diesel haul truck operation are
described in accordance with industry best practice and company procedures.
Range
systems may include but are not limited to – compressed air,
emergency stop, brakes, hydraulics, sensors, interlocks, alarms,
water and electrical services;
conditions may include but are not limited to – roof and side
security, traffic, lighting, accessibility, ventilation, roadway
conditions, travelling route, dust, gas make and management,
explosion risk zones (ERZs).

Check readiness and operate a diesel haul truck in an underground operation.
Evidence requirements
3.1
Checks on diesel haul truck are completed in accordance with industry best
practice and company procedures.

Diesel haul truck is operated in accordance with the job and the specifications

controls, instruments, alarms, manoeuvring, load material, haul
distances and limitations, speed, discharge, powered attachments.

practice and company procedures.

Documentation is completed in accordance with industry best practice and
company procedures.
