Strategic purpose statement
The purpose of this qualification is to provide the Direct Mail
Production industry with qualified technicians/trouble shooters
who have attained appropriate capabilities and competencies to
work unsupervised and provide a high quality mail service to
deliver printed media.
The qualification is designed for people working in the direct
mail production environment with the responsibility of meeting
production, quality and customer requirements.

Education pathway
Graduates of this qualification will be able to:

Troubleshoot and rectify faults and problems throughout
the direct mail production process.

Produce high level direct mail production outputs using
Film Wrap or Ink jet or Inserting or Laser Printing
machinery and auxiliary Print finishing equipment.
This qualification builds on the New Zealand Certificate in Direct
Mail Production (Level 3) with strands in Film Wrapping, Ink Jet
Printing, Inserting, and Laser Printing [Ref: 3197].
Graduates may go on to complete the New Zealand Certificate
in Print (Level 4) with strands in Digital Printing, Direct
Marketing Production, Offset Printing, Reel Fed Printing and
Screen Printing [Ref: 3199] or the New Zealand Diploma in Print
Industry Management Level 5 or other management
qualifications.
Employment pathway
Graduates will be qualified to work as skilled technicians across
two different types of direct mail production machinery and with
further training and work experience this could lead to a
Supervisors role in the Direct Mail Production industry.

Qualification award
This qualification can be awarded by an organisation which has
an approved programme of study or industry training programme
leading to the qualification.
This qualification may also be awarded by an education
organisation accredited under section 250 of the Education Act
1989 to deliver an approved programme leading to this qualification.

Replacement information
This qualification replaced the National Certificate in Direct Mail
Production (Level 4) [Ref: 1129].
People currently working towards the replaced qualification may either complete the requirements for that
qualification by 31 December 2019 or transfer their results to the replacement New Zealand qualification.
The last date for entry into programmes leading to this qualification is 31 December 2017.
The last date for assessment against this qualification is 31 December 2019.
It is anticipated that no existing candidates will be disadvantaged by these transition arrangements.
However, anyone who feels that they have been disadvantaged may appeal to Competenz at the address
below. Appeals will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
