Work Breakdown Structure Template
If you are the Project Manager on a project whose complexity level has been
calculated to be Low, Medium or High, you will need to determine the
following information in advance for each task required to complete the
project and entry into the required Work Breakdown Structure plan in PMIT:
1. The Work Element Number: Begin with 1 and sequentially increment
by 1 for each new task.
2. Activity, Task or Subtask: Enter the title of the work task. Try to
make this unique and meaningful in the context of other tasks. These
do not have to be in chronological order as they can be scheduled that
way later.
3. Work Description: Determine a description for each work task
required. Enter enough information about the task that someone
performing it can understand the requirements and desired result.
4. Responsible Unit: Determine the organizational unit responsible for
each task. Select the most accurate one from:
a. Technology Services
b. Administrative Systems
c. User Services
d. Application Services
e. University Computer Center
f. Information Security
g. Telecommunications
h. Networking Services
i. Other (specify the unit either within or outside VCU)
For more information on the type and contents of the above data fields in
PMIT, refer to the Work Breakdown Structure guide in the Instructions area
of the PMO Web site.
