ACTIVITIES: (Please provide a list of the activities students will perform in order to satisfy the HBA requirement): COURSE/CATALOG DESCRIPTION This course will allow peer tutors who have completed ACSKL200 to meet the training requirements for Level II certification by the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA). Topics will include record keeping and case management, the characteristics of adult learners and learning styles, cultural awareness and inter-cultural communication, and tutoring in specific skill and subject areas. COURSE OBJECTIVES: At the completion of the course the student will be able to: Provide peer tutoring services to other CCC students Employ a variety of pedagogical strategies in the provision of tutoring services. Assist other tutors in the provision of tutoring services. Utilize tutoring strategies based on individual learning styles and preferences. Develop case studies of individual tutees to improve tutorial services. Develop an advanced repertory of tutoring techniques and strategies. INTENDED STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES: Students will provide professional tutorial services to CCC students. Students will demonstrate an understanding of effective pedagogical strategies. COURSE CONTENT (Lecture): Case studies of tutoring situations (record keeping, writing, presentations) Learning styles Inter-cultural communication Content-specific tutoring skills (e.g., techniques for tutoring writing, math, etc.) METHODS OF INSTRUCTION: Lecture Small-group discussion/activities Role-playing INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS: NOTE: To be UC/CSU transferable, the text must be dated within the last 7 years OR a statement of justification for a text beyond the last 7 years must be included.
