Outline Information for MET 1311 Report and Presentation Objectives: The objective of the MET 1311 Report and Presentation is for the students to exhibit the ability to research a manufacturing topic and present the results in writing. In addition, the students are to exhibit the ability to orally communicate the results effectively. Topic - Process, Material, or Device: The student should choose a manufacturing process, material, or device that is familiar to the class members. The student should be able to describe it and explain how it can be used and how it is manufactured. To get the maximum grade/evaluation, the student should enhance the topic to include things that relate to economics, environment, life cycle, performance, or other critical aspect of manufacturing mentioned in class discussions, rather than just the description of how it is manufactured. Evaluation and Grading: The grading shall consist of both the written paper and the oral presentation. The criteria to be evaluated (both the report and presentation) are: Style, Clarity, Content, and Satisfied Objectives. Try to make your presentation interesting and stimulating by adding some images and video clips (you can use the CD which comes with Groover’s book or find the clips/images from the Internet). The overall project shall consist of at least 15% of the final grade. Written Paper Guidelines: The written paper shall be typed and at least 4 pages, but no more than 5 pages in length (1.5 line single spaced, 1 inch margins, 12 point font). Presentation Guidelines: The presentation should be done in PowerPoint. The student should support the presentation by photos, figures, videos, visual aids, etc. The length of presentation should be between 4 to 7 minutes (NOT LESS THAN 4 MINUTES…..and NOT MORE THAN 7 MINUTES!). It is advised that you time yourself to know the exact time which is taken to present your topic! No time should be wasted for transferring your files into the computer. The presentation should be given to me ahead of time so I can put them on the computer. Deadlines: The deadline to give me your approved topic shall be October 17, 2011. Email to dveazie@spsu.edu.
