Begins in the
MOUTH
Teeth
Grind, tear &
cut food
Salivary Glands
are the glands
that produce
saliva
Saliva is a fluid
that helps
soften food so
that it can be
swallowed.
The Esophagusis
a tube through
which food
passes to the
stomach.
The Stomach
is an organ that releases
acids & juices that mix
with the food & produces
a thick paste called
chyme. After 4 hours,
stomach muscles push
food into the small
intestine.
Small Intestine
is a coiled tube in which the
greatest amount of digestion
& absorption takes place.
The other organs that helps
in digestion are Pancreas,
Liver, Gallbladder.
Pancreas:
is a gland that
produces digestive
enzymes and
chemicals that
control blood sugar
levels.
Liver:
produces and releases
bile to help break
down fats, maintain
blood sugar levels
and filter poisonous
waste.
Gallbladder:
is an organ that
stores bile.
Undigested food
moves from the small
intestine into the
LARGE INTESTINE.
