APPLYING TO GRAD SCHOOL FOR SPEECH-LANGUAGE PATHOLOGY?
What
you
need
to
know!!
ADMISSION PROCESS:
Application materials are “released” to the Speech-Language Pathology Graduate Admissions
committee from the graduate school once all materials are received (e.g., transcripts, letters, GRE
scores, etc.). The applications are initially screened by the graduate coordinator to determine that
they meet the eligibility criteria (i.e., GPA, GRE). Applications are then reviewed and rated by
the graduate coordinator and two members of the admissions committee. Applicants are
recommended for admission based upon rankings of admissions committee. There are 25
applicants recommended for fall admission and 15 for winter admission.
Students who are denied admission may request to have their application “rolled over” for
reconsideration by contacting the graduate admissions office. While you do not have to update
any materials, if you have retaken the GRE or have redone your personal statement (etc.), you
may add these/swap them out.
FAQ’s and MYTHS about admission to EMU
(1)
Myth:
Out
of
state
students
are
favored
for
admission
because
they
pay
higher
tuition
to
the
university.
Fact:
A
majority
of
students
admitted
to
the
EMU
program
are
in‐state
students
with
a
few
coming
from
Ohio
schools
(who
automatically
receive
in‐state
rates
via
university
policy).
No
advantage
or
preference
is
accorded
to
out‐of‐state
applicants
in
the
admissions
process.
(2)
Myth:
It
is
easier
to
be
admitted
for
the
Winter
term
than
the
Fall
term.
Fact:
Although
many
more
individuals
apply
for
Fall
admission
(which
means
it
may
be
more
competitive),
there
are
more
slots
available
at
that
time.
Fewer
applicants
request
admission
for
the
winter
(January)
start,
but
there
are
also
fewer
slots.
We
typically
admit
25
students
for
the
fall
but
only
15
for
the
winter
term.
The
odds
of
being
admitted
are
slightly
better
for
the
Winter;
however,
it
is
still
very
competitive.
