Delaware Study Results
Final data collected in fall 2012 was presented by G. Khaneja.

Study is based on fall 2011 data. Participating institutions are required to provide
information on student credit hours, instructional costs, teaching loads, direct costs, etc.

Every course at Ramapo was counted.

Student credit hours were calculated by multiplying the number of students in each
course by the number of credits for that course (typically 4).

G. Khaneja will send calculated FTE by major to all deans.

The list of the institutions that Ramapo has been compared to in the Delaware Study
will be sent to all the deans.

B. Barnett encouraged deans to join forces and be supportive of the results of this study
as this data is rolled out among faculty.

S. Perry requested larger classroom sizes so he could increase the number of students in
each class. B. Barnett suggested he work with B. Foster in the Registrar’s Office.
Alumni Data
G. Khaneja also provided information on alumni data for students who have graduated from
Ramapo College. The report showed how many actually pursued further study after graduation.
Information was gathered from the National Student Clearing House (NSC) database.
All agreed that data would be useful for admissions recruiting, and to help shape curriculum
and future programs. The data is posted on the IR website.
Admitted Student Questionnaire
C. Romano – Presented the Admitted Student Questionnaire – on why students accepted by
Ramapo do not come to Ramapo.
This information is based on a survey administered by the College Board that goes out to
everyone accepted by Ramapo who does not come here. Out of 2800 students there was an
11% response rate.
Review of the perceptions of students.

Social reputation vs academic reputation – social reputation is worse than academic
reputation meaning social interactions, lack of activities etc.

Cost was a main reason for a student not attending Ramapo, as was unavailability of
desired majors, along with reputation of the school, job prospects after college, social
references, and distance.
Admissions has created a major sheet that will help students better connect with their majors
this may also be reflected in their website. It may help students clarify their majors.
Academic Advisement Update
J. Connell gave an update on the Advising Process.
Registration for spring 2014 starts November 4.

Discussion on mandatory advisement schedule for sophomore students; lifting
academic holds, and the number of holds that can exist on a student’s schedule.

Faculty training has been separated into new faculty and veteran faculty.

M. Johnson is the contact person for faculty training to units and schools.

C. Romano is creating an advisor newsletter with updates to changes in advisement.
Faculty Development
Suggestion made that instead of unit-level faculty development committees, we should create
an all-college committee to serve that purpose. Units could still have their own committees if
so desired. Other Business
S. Rice will be chairing the Dean’s Lecture Series and will be reaching out to the Deans for
their suggestions.
