Main St. Romney, West Virginia 26757 West Virginia INSITE & VIISA . . . is a home-based program for the families of visually impaired and visually impaired-multihandicapped infants and young children between the ages of birth and five years (with special emphasis on birth to three years) residing within the State of West Virginia. This service is provided by the West Virginia Schools for the Deaf and the Blind. Rationale Young children having impairments, such as visual loss, hearing loss, brain injury, or some combination thereof, are at risk for significant developmental delays. The treatment can be complex and the necessary services can be difficult to find and coordinate. The goal of West Virginia INSITE/VIISA is to identify these children at an early age and provide a complete home/community program that will facilitate development. Referrals Cost There is absolutely NO CHARGE for the West Virginia INSITE/VIISA program. The program is offered by the West Virginia Schools for the Deaf and the Blind, located in Romney, West Virginia. The particular day of the week and the time of the day is set according to your schedule and the Parent Advisor’s schedule. The purposes of these visits are: First and foremost, the Parent Advisor is there to assist the parents in learning how to help your child develop to his/her fullest potential. The Parent Advisor will also serve as support for you and will assist you in finding answers to questions and solutions to specific problems as they relate to your child. The Parent Advisor will spend some time working with your child to demonstrate various learning activities in which you and your child may participate. These activities may include play skills, developmental skills, communication skills, visual or auditory skills. They will also provide information topics to help you better understand your child.
