Learning Objectives: For the quiz, the student should know how to:
• Apply statistical mechanics to systems such as crystals and ideal gases to derive
partition functions for these systems.
• Using the partition function for a specific system, derive the statistical
thermodynamics forms of F, S, U and Cv for that particular system.
• Derive and use the Tangent method of finding the pmp’s of a multicomponent
system.
• Prove that the Gibbs-Duhem equation holds for pmp’s.
